Learning as an individual, with direct help from a teacher, underniably accelerates academic progress. Knowledge is deepened and new skills are developed. As the saying goes however, 'there's more than one way to crack an egg'.
Each individual adopts different learning styles dependent upon the context of the learning udertaken. Creating additional, complex understanding often requires different approaches to maximise progress.
The concept of theme based learning can allow deeper understanding, and more importantly, knowledge across different subject areas:
"Focusing on "themes" enables teachers to meaningfully link different disciplines so that students will develop "big" and important ideas. Educational researchers are learning that students are better served when provided opportunities to develop deep knowledge about a few "big ideas" rather than a superficial knowledge of a broader range of ideas and information."
At Integral-Tutoring, we provide focused workshops across a common theme. These opportunities allows a group of children to interact around a common goal, but with a wider context and understanding. For instance, learning about the 'Great Fire of London' provides a canvas to make reference to history, literacy, science and mathematics all at the same time, but focussing on a few key ideas that will remain with the learners for a long time.
Our understanding of enjoyable, stimulating and expressive learning has been developed through many years of application within the classroom environment. Our schemes of work are enhanced to accomodate the excellent opportunities that small group work can provide.
We will regularly inform our customers of half daily, intensive workshops which caters for children to interact and extend their knowledge and understanding. If, as a parent, you wish to be included in the activities, we welcome your participation with your child, showing that learning and sharing is for everybody, regardless of age and background.
